How the senses are altered in pregnant women

With pregnancy occur a number of anatomical and functional changes that include greater or lesser degree and almost without exception to all organs and systems. These changes represent the response of the maternal organism to adapt and increased metabolic demand imposed by the fetus. Knowledge of these changes is important because it could be misinterpreted as pathological deviations. Next will be described changes in level with the senses.
1. In pregnant women, the changes in ocular apparatus has few opportunities.
2. There may be lacrimal hypersecretion, decreased eye strain and slight increase in the tension of the central artery of the retina.
3. The fundus is normal, so any alteration thereof is suspicious of any pathology.
4. Functionally can present visual fatigue accommodation disorder, stress disorders of refraction, especially increasing myopia.
5. Most of these changes should arouse suspicion in the sense of a pathological origin thereof (hypertrophy of the pituitary, pregnancy-induced hypertension, etc.).
6. With some frequency decreased auditory acuity is observed, besides being very common aggravation of preexisting conditions.
7. Taste sensitivity changes with frequency and with varying intensity to the various types of flavors (bitter, sweet, salty), leading to the whims and coarse power disturbances.
8. Are very common functional disorders in the sense of a hypersensitivity to rejection (not existing) for certain odors (perfumes, cigarettes, cooking).
9. Sometimes it is replaced by a decrease in sharpness (hyposmia) as a result of congestion and swelling of the mucosa.
